New Pics.
Here are a few pics from the last month or so. They were shot with a Nikon D40, D80, or a S700, The S700 is a fairly nice little point and shoot camera that makes nice video.

The above shot of my friend with Ms. Liberty was done with the S700.

The above shot was done with a D80.

This shot was take with the S700 this last Thanksgiving.

D80 I think...low resolution.

Thanksgiving again with the S700.

Mosque

The Islamic Center of NY is located at the corner of 96th and 3rd Ave and is a city block long.
It's done and minurette break the usual skyline of Manhattan. It position surrounded by modern NY buildings is a testimony to the life of the faithful Muslims in this modern world. The Minurette stands tall and proud amongst the building of such stark contrast, yet it is humble in its size dwarfed as it is by its neighbors.
Even though it is quite a distance from where I live, the 96th street Mosque is my favorite Mosque to pray in. It will always be a special place for me as it was where I said Shahada for the first time in public. There are some very special Imams there. I have also made a number of friends there who are helping me along with my growth in Islam. The leadership is quite moderate, and discourages extremism. It is fundamental in the truest sense. When I say fundamental I refer to adhering to the fundamentals of Islam. Fundamentalism has been misused lately to refer to extremist groups. To be fundamental is to follow the basics of a faith. To go beyond that to an extreme point is to be an extremist. Those who have chosen to distort the message of the Quran and Islam are extremists. They promote terrorism and violence. The leadership of the Islamic Center, as well as other Mosques in NYC, encourage people to live in harmony with the society they live in. The inside of the Mosque is quite a site. It is has three floors. The main room is the prayer area and is carpeted with a beautiful carpet. The dome lies in the middle and is a incredible site. Like many Mosques the lighting is low that gives it a certain air of mystique.
The Imam gives tours of the Mosque to anyone who wishes. You do not have to be Muslim. He gives a tour, a lecture, and then answers questions from the visitors.
